You and your pet are on an. outdoor adventure with your pets stroller and the unthinkable happens… Your stroller has a flat!
At the InnoPet customer service, reports of flat tyres are rare. But to put your mind at ease, we came up with these tips so you can prevent and repair a flat tyre on your stroller.
Preventing a flat tyre on your pet stroller
- Regularly check the pressure
No need to whip out a machine to measure how much bar or psi is in the tyre. Simply give the tyres a squeeze with your fingers. Keep in mind in hot weather the tyres shouldn’t be completely full, as warm expands and this may cause a flat.
If you ride with a very low tyre pressure, you risk tearing and puncturing the inner tube, without having to have ridden over anything sharp. You even risk your tyre popping off the rim! - Check them after a walk
The most obvious problem is if there is something sharp in the tread. Not only glass or nails, but also sharp pieces of gravel can cause a puncture if they constantly press against the same spot.
- Apply Slime Tube Sealant
Slime is a liquid that finds and seals holes in your inner tubes up to 3 mm. Adding the sealant to the inner tubes of your pet stroller, gives them extra protection agains punctures. Slime Tube Sealant is now available for purchase at InnoPet or your favourite InnoPet dealer. - Store indoors
The elements can dry out the rubber of both the inner tube and outer tyre. Store your pet stroller indoors, if possible. Plan to store your stroller for an extended period? Read our tips about storing and mantainig your stroller.
Fixing a flat tyre
- Tyre repair kit
Tyre repair kit for bicycles are sold online and in DIY shops (or even the supermarket if you’re in The Netherlands). In the kit there are usually instructions on how to fix the tyre. But there’s no shame in looking up a how to video, either. - Slime Tube Sealant
Yup, there it is again… If you have a puncture of 3mm or smaller, Slime Tube Sealant will find it and plug it. Wondering how to use it? Watch the instruction video here. - Replace the inner tube
When the hole is just too big to patch, or there are several holes in the inner tyre, replacing the inner tube is your next step. InnoPet does not carry replacement inner tubes for the strollers with pneumatic tyres. Take the inner tube out.* The size of the tube should be printed on the rubber. Find a matching inner tube in the shop or online to replace it with.
Alternatively, you can take the wheel to your local bike repair shop, they can order and install the correct tube for you.
*Some front tyres cannot be taken off of the rim, because they are riveted to the front fork. - Replace the wheel
If all fixes fail, completely replacing the wheel is an option, if the part is in stock. When the outer tyre has holes in it, or is very worn down, the inner tube keeps going flat. It can be rather frustrating having to repair or replace the inner tube often. Rather fix it yourself? Look for an outer tyre online, or at the (bike repair) shop.
How long do tyres last?
Tyre lifespan depends on use, surfaces, weight and maintenance. Replacing both indoor and outdoor tyres may eventually be necessary.
