5 Tips to make your dog stroller autumn proof 🍁

After every walk with your dog, you come home soaked. Your dog is shivering from the cold, and your own fingers feel like icicles. Protect your dog, yourself and your dog stroller from the wet autumn weather with these 5 tips!

  1. Protection against rain
Of course, you can carry an umbrella while walking in the rain. But if you have to push a dog stroller at the same time, you have no hands free. With an umbrella holder, you can easily attach your umbrella to your dog stroller. You can keep your dog dry with a rain cover for your dog stroller. InnoPet has rain covers for all InnoPet dog strollers.
  2. Protecting against cold
You keep yourself warm with a nice warm coat. For your dog, you can put a cosy pillow and blankets in the dog stroller. For extra warmth, you could also use a heat element such as a hot water bottle or heat pad. Just make sure not to put a heat element directly against the dog.
When pushing the stroller, you might get cold hands and fingers. Take a good pair of gloves with you on your outings or attach hand warmers to the push bar of your stroller.
  3. Protecting the stroller
Wet weather conditions increase the risk of mould in the cover and rust on metal components. To prevent rust and mildew, dry the stroller thoroughly and leave it to dry in the unfolded position. Also read our other maintenance tips to make your stroller last as long as possible.
  4. Clean car
After a brisk walk in the autumn scenery, chances are your stroller’s wheels will be covered in mud. Making your stroller mud-free in the car park is not ideal. Fortunately, there are wheel covers and stroller storage bags. This way, you can keep the boot of your car clean. When you get home, don’t forget to dry the wheels and stroller properly (see tip 3)!
  5. In the dark
The more northern you live, the shorter the days get in autumn. So it is likely to happen that you will still be out in the dusk or dark with your dog and the dog stroller. Make yourself and the stroller clearly visible in the dark. Using bicycle lights attached to the frame, you are quite visible to others. There are also reflective stickers on the market, suitable to stick on fabric or the frame. Want to be able to clearly see where you are going in the dark yourself? A large bike light attached to the push bar will make sure you can easily see the path ahead.

4 Tips: walking your dog next to the stroller

Your dog probably won't be in the dog stroller the entire time you walk. Walking a dog on a leash alongside a dog stroller can still be quite a challenge. The leash getting caught between the wheels, your dog walking too close in front of the stroller, or pulling so hard on the leash that the dog stroller falls over. What can you do about this?
