On which surface will you be using your dog stroller?

Whether you plan on taking your dog on a trip to the beach, the woods or on a shopping spree in town, a dog stroller must meet your needs and those of your dog. Net every type of wheel is meant to use on sandy beaches. Even if you are not taking your dog stroller off-road, you may want to know which type of wheels are out there.

Types of tires

Among the InnoPet strollers there are 3 types of tires. Most of the strollers have EFA tires. EFA material is a lightweight plastic with a rubber-like flexibility. These tires cannot be punctured and do not have to be refilled with air.
Then there are PU tires. PU is a tough, durable synthetic material which makes very little noise when driven over pavement. PU, like EFA, does not puncture and does not have to be refilled with air. Only the InnoPet Premium Cozy comes with PU tires at the moment, although pneumatic tires are available and sold separately.

Pneumatic tires or air tires on dog strollers afford more damping and may feel more comfortable to some. Air tires on dog strollers are often bigger than EFA or PU tires, which is convenient when driving over uneven terrain.

Dog stroller in the city

When using a dog stroller in urban areas, agility is a must. On narrow or busy streets, small wheels on your dog stroller, give you the ability to make quick turns and avoid obstacles. Cities and urban areas are usually well-paved. To be fair, any of the InnoPet dog strollers are suited for city use.

Dog stroller in the woods or the park

When taking a dog stroller off-road, you want the dog to be comfortable and not get shaken up during the ride. Air tires can take away some of the shaking. EFA and PU tires, too, are suitable for rough terrain, as they won’t puncture and can roll smoothly over rough surfaces. These dog strollers can be used to ride over grass, gravel and paths in the woods. Mind you, going hiking with a dog stroller on extremely rocky surfaces is probably not a good idea.

Dog strollers on the beach

When you plan on taking your dog to the beach, having a stroller that rolls over sand is a must. Sturdy wheels that don’t sink in the dry sand and don’t get stuck in wet beach sand. Sturdy wheel rims, and medium sized wheels are key. Metal spokes and sand generally don’t go well together. Small wheels easily get stuck in loose sand as do thin large wheels. PU, EFA and air tires may be used in combination.
